THE SPIRIT THAT DWELLS IN AN ALCOHOLIC

For those Christians that are ‘new’ to God’s Word, I am going to give you fair warning.

Keep away from alcoholics!!!

In Satan’s arsenal of devil spirits, this spirit referred to as ‘leviathin’ is one of the deadliest, most confusing, destructive, and strongest spirits the enemy has.  The Word of God warns us, in many places, of excesses in this area and we will cover some of those Scriptures.  The first one is in the Church Epistle of Ephesians.

Ephesians 5: 18 -- And be not drunk (out of control and being used) with wine wherein is excess, but be filled by spirit.

Notice the context of the chapter.  It is speaking about walking wisely and not as a fool and to make the best use of time.  After that, God goes on to say that we are to understand what the Will of the Lord is.  Now how are we supposed to do that?!  Obviously, by STUDYING God’s Word.  That’s what we’re doing right now.

Before I go on, I must tell you that I have extensive experience dealing with leviathan -- the spirit found in an alcoholic.  Someone in my family died from alcoholism and I had to watch this process for about 15 or 20 years.  If you think Alfred Hitchcock can write horror movies, his movies were Disney adventures compared to what an alcoholic is capable of doing.  I also have an alcoholic living only a few houses away from me.  I was the only one that confronted him about his problem and he appeared to go into a rage just like the Word of God says in Proverbs (see below).  I spoke to the local police about this man and how potentially dangerous he was, owning many firearms.  The police appeared rather afraid to deal with this person and did NOTHING.  Do what God tells you to do and you won’t have a problem.

At a certain point, a person who drinks alcohol in excess can and will become possessed with this spirit of leviathan.  It is the trickiest spirit Satan has.  IT ACTUALLY IMITATES THE LOVE OF GOD.  If the alcoholic does not want help, there is actually no hope at all concerning the deliverance of this person.  That is why I exhort someone in this position to keep their distance.  This spirit can twist the mind and thoughts of a normal person to the point of insanity.  ONLY SOMEONE VERY STRONG IN THE SCRIPTURES CAN DEAL WITH AN ALCOHOLIC.  Many patients in State Hospitals for the mentally ill have at least one family member who is an alcoholic.  I worked in a very large State Hospital and I speak from experience.  Let us now turn to the Bible and study what God has to say about drinking in excess.

One of the effects of alcoholism is ANGER:

Proverbs 20: 1 -- Wine is  a mocker, strong drink is  raging:  and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

God tells us that the person who drinks is deceived.  The adversary starts off people very slowly regarding addictions.  No one, in their heart, wants to become an addict of any type.  Satan deceives and lures a person into his trap.

Drinking in excess and gluttony can lead to poverty.

Proverbs 23: 21a -- For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: . . . .

Confuses the mind and clouds a person’s judgement:

Isaiah 28: 7 -- But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in  judgement.

Take notice how specific God is in this great Scripture showing the result of strong drink:  errors, consumed mentally, impaired vision, poor judgement.  Yet an alcoholic will act as if he or she is perfectly fine.  You see, an alcoholic will do practically anything to continue drinking.  And they prefer to do it as if it is perfectly ok -- like nothing at all is wrong.  I watched an alcoholic sell everything they could get their hands on to buy alcohol.  THEY HATE TO BE CONFRONTED ABOUT THEIR PROBLEM, yet I have done it and the spirit goes insane.  The person can go into a rage -- that is why I say to most Christians -- keep away.  It is for your own protection.  Many years ago, they used to commit people with this problem to State Hospitals and that is where they belong.  There was a good success rate when this was done.  The person had to dry out and when released, believe me, they did not want to return.  But today, it is tolerated and many innocent people are subject to the negative effects of these addicted people.

More than once, I have said that the only feasible solution to dealing with alcoholics, unless you are extremely STRONG in the Scriptures, is to avoid them.  Of course, God Almighty puts it in a more eloquent manner in the epistle of I Corinthians:

I Corinthians 5: 11 -- But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, OR A DRUNKARD, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.  [emphasis added]

God clearly tells us not to have fellowship with a drunkard, among other sinners.  Having fellowship with a drunkard is fellowship with darkness -- strictly forbidden in God’s Word.

II Corinthians 6: 14 -- Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:  for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?  And what communion hath light with darkness?

Ephesians 5: 11 -- And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

One of the characteristics of an alcoholic which is prominent is that they will try to DEGRADE others.  This is in an attempt to assume control of all situations, if possible.  They will turn to any means to do so -- especially lying.  Alcoholics are incessant liars.  Now remember that we are to love the person if they want help.  Don’t forget that and misunderstand this teaching completely.  BE CAREFUL.  An alcoholic might say he or she needs help, however, they may be lying to get you to stop bothering them so they can continue with their drinking!  There is a record in the Old Testament in the Book of Esther that we should look at concerning degradation.

Esther 1: 10, 11 -- On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains (eunuchs) that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king.  To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty:  for she was  fair to look on.

BUT THE QUEEN REFUSED!!!  You see this was a degrading thing for this woman.  Praise God she told the king and his chamberlains to go to hell.  They were already there anyway.  By the way, I should say, at this point, that a person begins to lose their spiritual sharpness after TWO (2) DRINKS.  Then a person begins to make a fool out of themselves and tries to do the same to others.  Tell me you haven’t see this happen.

Excessive drinking causes a person to be licentiousness (morally unrestrained):

Romans 13: 13 -- Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

Isn’t the Word of God just tremendous?  It spells everything out for us because God loves us even more than we can comprehend.  NOW WATCH THE NEXT VERSE.  It begins with "BUT" which sets in contrast that which is said before.  After telling us what NOT TO DO, God then tells us WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING.

Romans 13: 14 -- But put ye on the Lord Jesus, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil  the lusts thereof.

To "put on" the Lord Jesus Christ means to RENEW THE MIND.  We are to think like Jesus Christ thought by studying and applying the Word of God.  If we do this, we will not make provision for the flesh to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Lust is OVER-DESIRE and it stems from our old man.  Alcoholism is fleshy over-desire, which as mentioned before can lead to possession by a spirit of leviathan.  When it gets that far, you have a serious problem.

Let’s keep going, shall we -- if you’re not yet convinced of the seriousness of this problem?  Alcoholism can result in the absolute PERVERSION OF JUSTICE.  An alcoholic once accused me of something I never did and lied incessantly as expected.  The adversary has done everything in his power to take down this web site because it is one of the few sites that teaches the Word RIGHTLY DIVIDED.  I’m still here because "greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world".  "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".  The adversary got more than he bargained for when God made it available for me to learn and teach His Word.  The accurate Word of God taught with the love of God makes him tremble -- it is the only thing that DEFEATS HIM!  Don’t you ever feel sorry for your personal adversary or he will melt your face.

Isaiah 5: 22, 23 -- Woe unto them that are  mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:  Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

NOW WATCH WHAT HAPPENS TO THESE PEOPLE WHO CONSUME ALCOHOL IN EXCESS IN THE NEXT VERSE:

Isaiah 5: 24 -- Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so  their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust:  because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

What influenced these people to sin and not obey God?  They were strong in the fleshly desire to DRINK.

I must say to my reader at this point that I can go on and on with examples from God’s Word about the addiction of alcohol.  It is a terrible thing, but very dangerous to most people and even Christians.  It is my prayer for you that you heed the warnings and advice given to you from someone who has worked extensively with an alcoholic in my family and also have experience with alcoholics in a large State Hospital for the mentally challenged.  I never even taught on what excessive alcohol use does to the human body.  It deteriorates the body, in time, to the point of overall complete breakdown.

So you just be blessed that you don’t have this problem as you continue to study and apply God’s matchless Word.  The information in this teaching will serve you well, if not now, some day in the future.  The Word of God never comes back void.

Isaiah 55: 11 -- So shall my word be that goeth forth out my mouth:  it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing  whereto I sent it.
