The POWER Of Scripture Retemory

For those of you who have decided to venture, with interest, wondering what the name of this teaching represents, I have a surprise for you.  Many of you have heard me say that you should memorize a certain Scripture.  A better word would be to retemorize as many Scriptures as you possibly can.  To retemorize is a much better definition because it means not only to say or learn words by memory, but to understand what they mean at the same time.  By the way, I have not rehearsed any of this teaching.  I have not written anything down -- now I want to watch how God Almighty will put this teaching together for me as I act upon my believing.  He will make a teaching out of this teaching as you will see.

This is a most unusual teaching in which I am going to demonstrate to you the importance of Scripture retemory.  I am not going to open my Bible even once during this teaching.  I am not going to go to any of my research materials at any time during this teaching.  I am going to show you how I learned Scripture retemory and why I learned it and how important it is.  I do not have to have my Bible with me to know the Word of God.  It is seared into fleshly tables of my heart and no one, but no one can take it away from me.  Let me give you an example of a very important Scripture that I know by heart.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.  -- Matthew 6: 33

I know this Scripture and every Scripture in this teaching by heart or as you may say by memory.  What good does it do me?  So often I am tempted by the world to do the one thing that God cannot stand and that is when we do not keep Him first.  And when you do not keep God first all things will not be added unto you, but they will be subtracted from you.  I would say that this is a very important verse of Scripture, wouldn't you?  I've known it by heart for at least 30 years.  I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have gone over this Scripture in my mind and it has blessed me.  The world makes it very easy to practice idolatry such as cell phones, the purchase of trucks that are not needed, etc. etc. and the list goes on for all eternity.  But when you know the Scripture, it will pop up in your mind just when you need it.  As it was once said to me by a great woman of God, it will pop up in your mind just like toast in a toaster.  It's true.  I have experienced this many, many times -- countless times.

Do you see how important and how much information we can absorb from learning only one Scripture by memory?  While I was explaining the Scripture to you, I mentioned the word temptation, didn't I?

There hath no temptation taken you but such as it is common to man, but God is faithful who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

There is great power in the Word of God.  There is so much power that we cannot truly understand it.  When I was running that Scripture off in my mind, it just came to me.  I hardly had to think about.  It is as easy as breathing.  Why?  Because I studied it for a very long time because it is a long Scripture and it is just as important as it is long.

So when I am tempted during the day, and every man or woman is tempted, I run this Scripture through my mind and I realize that God is faithful to us and He will not allow us to be tempted above that which we can handle.  He is saying to us that with that temptation, God Almighty will make a way out so that we can escape it and we are able to bear it -- we are able to deal with it.  Isn't that beautiful?  In this day and age, there are so many temptations, they are almost uncountable.  You need to know this Scripture and what are you going to do if you are tempted to do something that is wrong and you do not have your Bible with you.  You're going to do what I did.  You're going to retemorize that Scripture and therefore keep it in the fleshly tables of your heart.  The enemy is going to hate this and he is going to try and stop you from doing what I'm telling you that you need to do.  Scripture retemory is power and you need that power today since the world is getting worse and worse and worse.  At least remember one thing, every time you are tempted, it is wrong.

Now remember, at the beginning of this teaching, I told you that God was going to put it together for me.  Now watch what He does.  It's so simple really when you believe and when you apply God's Word.  It's truly a miracle.  So here goes.

If you remember, when I was explaining the last Scripture about temptation, I told you that I learned it only because I studied it long and hard.  It's a challenge to your mind and it's a great way to take up time that normally would be very boring.  I mentioned many times that I learned Scriptures when I was walking my dog up in the country.  I would have my Scripture retemory cards with me and I would go over these Scriptures and over them until I got them down pat.  It's exciting, really.

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth and not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  – II Timothy 2: 15

Notice that some Scriptures I will remember where they are at and many Scriptures, I will not remember the Scripture reference.  I felt it was much more important to know the Word of God, than to know exactly where it is written in the complete Bible.  You may disagree.

Now this verse tells you how I learned all my Scripture retemory.  I studied because I wanted to show myself approved unto God and not unto men.  I wanted to be a workman that needed not to be ashamed, and I wanted to rightly divide the Word of truth.  I did this out of my own free will.  Do you know what I notice about many believers?  The less hell that they've been through before they got born again, the weaker they are in believing.  I have been to hell and back in my old man days.  I wouldn't even tell you some of the things I went through because I would scare the living daylights out of you.  But because of that, I am that much stronger and more thankful once I was delivered from the snare of the devil himself.  The greatest thing that I find about God's Word is how simple it really is.  Have you heard this saying before?  It's so simple that I missed it for years.  God’s telling us to study -- that's what He wants us to do.  There are so many benefits to studying that I can understand why God didn't even make an attempt to mention all of them.

Let all things be done decently and in order.  – I Corinthians 14: 40

Did you ever take a good look at the teachings on this website?  Is it terribly difficult to find a mistake?  Why?  Because I do what the Word of God tells me to do and I do not question or argue with God.  He says that all things should be done decently and in order.  You think that means neatly?  Of course it does.  Do you think these teachings should be loaded with grammatical errors and spelling errors?  Of course not.  So I make sure that I carry out God's Will and check and check and check each teaching before I put it up on the website and on the Internet.  At one point, I had realized that many of my teachings were loaded with small errors.  It took about one year to go over every teaching with a fine tooth comb and I repaired all those errors and retransferred those teachings to my website and of course to the Internet.  Am I perfect?  Absolutely not.  You will find slight errors every so often in some of my teachings but I wouldn't want to be the person who was looking for those errors because you're going to waste a lot of time.  Now take a look at this teaching and how it's come together.  It's flowing like two rivers coming together and God gets the glory.

So you may ask yourself at this point, well what's the point of doing all this work?  The point is that you're going to conquer your personal adversary because darkness cannot stand light.  He is going to keep away from you if he knows that one of his attacks are easily countered by the Word of God that is embedded in your heart.  So let's take it a step farther.  What should we be thinking of and what is the result?

Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.  – Colossians 3: 2

The word ‘affections’  is your thinking.  Things above are referring to spiritual matters.  This is in contrast to things that are on the earth.  So what do you think is going to make you feel better?  Do you think if you think about things of God as compared to things on the earth that you are going to feel better?  Of course you are because things of God are positive and beautiful and gentle and true and honest and just.  Let's go over that Scripture right now.

Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things.  -- Philippians 4: 8

Those are the things that we are to be thinking about.  These are the things that are above and not on the earth.  They are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report.  Isn't that something?  When you are thinking about God and keeping Him first, these are the things that you will be thinking on throughout your day.  Now let's go back and take a look at the previous Scripture which tells us not to think on things on the earth.  Why should we not be thinking on these things when we live here upon the earth?  First, you must understand that there must be a balance between the world and the Word.  The Word should take preeminence over the world.  However, as it was put in the Gospels, we do need some bread -- we do need to spend much of our time in this present evil world.  But, we can still keep God first and foremost in our lives.  Now let's take a look at what the world and living by the five senses as compared to the Spirit has to offer.

For to be carnally minded his death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God,  for it is not subject to the law of God,  neither indeed can be.  – Romans 8: ?,?

I want you to know that at first I had some difficulty with these verses.  But there are ways to put things to memory and you need to find a way that is best for you.  Because I remembered that the second verse began with the word ‘because’, I was able to remember the rest of the verse.  You'll run across some difficulties like this because Scripture retemory is work, but is very well worth it as you will see.  Guess what else happened to me?  I was tempted, actually tempted to run to my Bible!!!!!  Can you imagine that?  But that Scripture popped up in my head just like toast in a toaster and I knew that when I was tempted, it was always wrong.  So I kicked that thought out of my head within an instant and moved on.  Things like this will happen to you.  None of us are perfect.  Now let's get back to the Scripture above.

What does it mean when the Word says to be carnally minded is death?  It is a figure of speech meaning that if we choose to walk only by our five senses, it is like a living death.  Only lately, for some unknown reason, my mind was not on the Word of God.  I felt terrible and one morning I woke up and I prayed to God with all my heart and He showed me what was wrong and I got back in fellowship - praise the Lord.

Now you may think I'm blowing my own horn, but I am not.  I am showing you the results of learning Scripture by memory for each different situation.  I have not opened my Bible and I will not throughout this teaching.  All of these Scriptures are in my heart and are not going anywhere.  You or anyone else cannot take them away from me.  Your walk with God is your own -- your relationship with God is special.  Just listen to God and He will help you.  I must mention to you that the world is getting really bad and most people don't even think about God, let alone study His Bible.

But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he had done and there is no respect of persons.

Every time you do wrong, it comes back at you and you will receive for the wrong which you had done.  There is no escape from God's justice.  There may be an escape from man's justice, but never from God.  And what does God say at the end of this verse?  He says there is no respect of persons which means that it doesn't matter if you're a movie star or a sanitation engineer or an attorney or a CEO of a major company, you will receive back for the wrong which you had done if that is the case.  I always said that if everyone on earth would live by this one Scripture, there would not be a problem on this planet.  What happens here is that people do wrong and receive back for the wrong which they did and they become bitter.  Because they have convinced themselves by a spirit of rationalization that what they have done is not wrong, but is justified.  Because of the bitterness that they feel because they will not admit that they are wrong, they become worse and worse.  I had a person threaten my life because I stepped one toe onto his property while I was looking for my dog who ran away.  I can nail this person in the legal arena to the point were I can put him in jail for what he said, but I gave him a break.  You know what he said to me after I gave him a break?  He said I did that because I’m stupid.  You see, people are so idiotic that you must be careful that the devil doesn't lure you into a situation, especially a legal situation.  It is just not worth it.  I got away from this person and I never even look at him anymore.  But just in case, as preventive believing, I have some information prepared for him just in case.  I'm counting on God to just take care of the situation for me.

Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you.

I found this type of situation to be extremely perplexing.  Like I once learned, if you can't take the football and run it right up the center, then you pass it and you still can't complete a pass.  So what do you do when you just can't handle a situation?  You punt -- you give it away.  There are certain situations where we need to listen to God and I mean listen to every little iota that He has to say and carry it forth and He will take care of it.  That reminds me, never, and I mean never, seek vengeance upon another person.  I struggled with this for many years but I learned.

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath, for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord.  -- Romans 12: 18?

I have had a hard time with that scripture and I know it by heart, but the devil was trying to get the best of me and many times I did things that were wrong and then I was wondering why it was coming back to me.  Then I was getting better and worse.  Thank God for God.  I got my head into the Word, someone helped me with the Scripture, to understand it even better and I began to apply it.  And as we may know, the renewed mind is a very difficult process and takes a lot of time.  I want to mention a word in a previous Scripture and that word is’ wrath’.  This wrath is not yours -- it is referring to the wrath of God.  So please try not to mix that up.  As God is saying, get out of the way kids for vengeance is mine -- I am going to allow that person to pay when I see fit.

I beseech you brethren by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.  – Romans 12: 1, 2

If you really want to get honest with yourself, your life belongs to God.  We are Sons of God after we were born again of God's Spirit.  That is why God says that we are to present our bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to God which is our reasonable or logical service.  You see, no other way of life makes any sense.  The next verse says this is so important that we are not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed or transfigured by renewing our mind to the Word of God.  I always had a preference for the word ‘prove’ in the next sentence.  Why should we renew our mind?   God simply tells us so we can prove to ourselves what is that good and acceptable and perfect Will of God.  Now how simple can that get?  So much of the renewed mind and simple principles are mentioned in the book of Ephesians.  Perhaps we should go over some of the Scriptures.

Let him that stole steal no more but rather let him labour working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.  – Ephesians 5: ?

The world will make it very easy for you to walk into a store and slip something into your pocket.  By your own free will and strength and knowledge of the Word, do not do this.  Satan will tempt you and many people wind up in jail for shoplifting and then their life appears to the ruined.  I have dealt with people, one in particular, who had this problem and after I stuck my neck out to get the charges dropped for them, they went out and did it again.  So it is a strong spirit and you must be careful here.

Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.  – Ephesians 5: ?

I would like you to study Ephesians chapter 5 on your own and this may be a good place to start learning Scriptures by heart.  Here is a simple one that you can begin with at the end of Ephesians chapter 5.

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, [the love of God in the renewed mind in manifestation], these three, but the greatest of these is charity.

Before we move on into our final section, I would like you to always remember that without the love of God, you are nothing and you accomplish nothing.  I know it is hard to love the unlovable, but it has been said, that if you can't say nothing nice about people, say nothing at all.  Remember, it is the gentleness of God that leads a man or a woman to repentance.

Let us conclude this teaching in an attempt to make it as simple as possible.  Maybe this is good enough because I know at least 50 more Scriptures by heart.  At one time I knew maybe 100 Scriptures so I'm actually not sure how much I have committed to memory at the present time.  We should end this teaching on a positive note and talk about a subject that everybody needs and everybody wants and that is ‘peace’.  For some reason which I guess is obviously explainable, I have learned a number of Scriptures pertaining to the subject.  Let's go over some of them and conclude this teaching.  I thank you for your attention and your application to what is being taught so that you too can live a more than abundant life that Jesus Christ has promised us in John 10: 10b.  Let's go over that Scripture first.

I [Jesus Christ] am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.  – John 10: 10b

It would be good enough if we just had an abundant life, wouldn't it?  But Jesus Christ promised us a more than abundant life for us.

Now we will conclude our teaching with the topic of ‘peace’.

And let the peace of God rule in our hearts to the which also ye are called in one body, and be ye thankful.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth give I unto you, let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid.  – John 14: 27

It’s your free will – put God’s Word in your heart.
